Dr. Aisha Thawab says:

Through my research, I found that the solution to Yemen's humanitarian and development challenges, as well as peacebuilding efforts, lies in adopting the Nexus approach, and despite global commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the principle of leaving no one behind, we are moving in the direction of deviating from the principles of sustainability, all observations from our humanitarian interventions, whether from local, international or United Nations organizations, show that we are stuck in an endless vicious circle, which prevents us from achieving the Millennium Development Goals. It's time to rise up and shift away from the traditional approach to humanitarian aid. Many United Nations studies support this opinion

01Mission:

The Yemen Nexus Initiative envisions a sustainable and resilient Yemen where humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. It aims to create a positive cycle of change through the systematic application of the triple nexus approach to improve living conditions, foster resilience, and support long-term peace and stability in Yemen.

02Mission:

The mission of the Yemen Nexus Initiative is to establish a cohesive platform that promotes the integration of humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts in Yemen. The initiative seeks to:
1.
Generate and share evidence-based knowledge to strengthen nexus implementation.
2.
Build capacity among local organizations, communities, and authorities to institutionalize the nexus approach.
3.
Enhance collaboration and coordination between stakeholders to address complex challenges related to food security, health, WASH, climate change, and peacebuilding.
4.
Advocate for a supportive policy environment that encourages the adoption and scaling-up of the nexus approach across Yemen.

03Objectives:

1.Strengthen Institutional Capacity:

o Establish and          institutionalize the Yemen Nexus Initiative to serve as a collaborative platform for nexus-related activities.
o Develop strategies, action plans, and guidance notes that incorporate nexus principles into programmatic planning, especially in the context of climate change impacts.
2.Enhance Evidence-based Implementation:
o Conduct research, assessments, and data analysis to generate evidence that supports the adoption of the nexus approach in Yemen.
o Produce reports, policy documents, and strategic guidelines to inform stakeholders and enhance the implementation of nexus-based interventions.
3.Promote Community Engagement and Participation:
o Increase the involvement of local communities in the design, implementation, and monitoring of nexus initiatives.
o Strengthen the role of communities and local authorities in nexus activities to ensure inclusive and participatory development.
4.Build Capacity of Local Stakeholders:
o Enhance the capacity of local organizations, authorities, and communities to implement nexus-oriented projects effectively.
o Facilitate knowledge exchange and technical support through workshops, training sessions, and webinars on nexus-related issues.
5.Advance Advocacy and Policy Influence:
o Advocate for the integration of the nexus approach at the national and regional levels through joint meetings, conferences, and policy dialogues.
o Establish a Yemen Nexus Fund to support nexus projects and mobilize resources for sustainable and climate-resilient interventions.
6.Increase Visibility and Collaboration:
o Create a knowledge platform to serve as a centralized source for nexus-related information, tools, and best practices.
o Organize advocacy conferences and engagement events to raise awareness and strengthen the visibility of the Yemen Nexus Initiative.
7.Scale up to Establish and Operationalize the Yemen Nexus Fund:
•Develop and launch a dedicated financing mechanism to support nexus-oriented projects that address Yemen’s complex humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding challenges.
•Secure financial commitments from international donors, development partners, and private sector entities to sustain and expand the fund.
